Last May 19, 2026, the Bahamas deposited its instrument of accession to the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), which will enter into force for that country on August 19, 2026.
Starting August 19, 2026:
- Applicants and inventors in The Bahamas can file a single international application under the PCT to apply for patent protection in the territories of all the PCT System’s members;
- Bahamian innovators benefit from a consolidated path to protecting their inventions in new markets – including in major export destinations such as the United States, Canada, and Europe;
- Foreign innovators and companies can use the PCT System to seek patent protection for their inventions in The Bahamas.
With the accession of the Bahamas, the PCT now has 159 member states.
