Deductions on Corporation Tax

• Law 55/1999 of 29 December on Tax, Administrative and Social Security Measures includes a deduction package for scientific research and technological innovation.
• R&D costs corresponding to activities carried out abroad are also within the purview of the deduction package.

• Subsidies Plan aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises in order for them to become stable exporters.

Grants from the Export Consortia Programme

• With the aim of promoting the presence of Spanish companies in international markets.

The 2018 call by the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO) to award grants to promote patent and utility model applications was published in the Spanish Official Gazette No. 122 on 19 May 2018

This call has two main objectives:

• To stimulate the international protection of technology through patents or utility models, as well as contribute to improving the competitiveness of companies in the private sector that have started searching for markets outside of Spain; and
• Encourage the protection of national inventions from SMEs and individuals through patents or utility models.

To do so, funding will be provided for part of the official fees that the applicant had to pay at the time, according to reference amounts set forth in the call.

The competent authority for the preparation and settlement of the proceedings, as well as that which is responsible for monitoring the subsidies, shall be the SPTO.

Applications, both from programme related to patents and utility models in Spain and abroad can be filed until 19 June 2018.

Deferred payment for low-income applicants

• The Law 11/1986 on Patents allows people with incomes that do not exceed four times the minimum inter-professional salary to request the granting of the patent without paying any fees for the first three years.
• Support in managing and carrying out patents within the National Business Competitiveness Support Programme.
